St. Dominic’s Memorial Hospital used FlexSim HC to validate a proof-of-concept for their General Stores department redesign

St. Dominic’s Memorial Hospital used FlexSim Software’s FlexSim Healthcare to evaluate a redesign of its General Stores department. The challenge was a cramped receiving area that caused pallets to spill into the hallway, creating congestion, one-way traffic flow, and extra handling of the same pallets during the receiving process.

FlexSim Software built current-state and future-state simulation models to compare the existing layout with the proposed redesign, using the same process times and random number streams for an accurate comparison. The redesign reduced work from 6.55 hours to 6.05 hours per day for six employees, saving about 3 labor hours daily and an estimated $12,753 per year, while also adding more than 675 square feet of open space and 22 feet of shelving.
