How a simple FlexSim model allowed Ghafari Associates to extract some valuable information

Ghafari Associates worked with FlexSim Software to quickly test a warehouse sortation process using FlexSim simulation software. Their challenge was to model a section of the warehouse on a small scale, then evaluate throughput, utilization, and potential bottlenecks without overburdening volunteer sortation workers.

Using FlexSim, Ghafari Associates built a model in just a day and a half to stress test the system and experiment with system inputs. FlexSim showed the line could meet worst-case throughput if conveyors ran at 40 feet per minute, volunteer utilization stayed under 30%, and two pallet loading stations were needed per sortation operator to avoid delays.
