The European Space Agency Strengthens IT Security with Secunia’s Vulnerability Intelligence Manager

The European Space Agency (ESA), which coordinates Europe’s space research and operations across member states, needed to upgrade its IT security to sustain research activities and protect critical systems. ESA’s CERT team previously spent significant time manually aggregating vulnerability information from multiple vendors — a slow, error-prone process that hampered timely incident management and risk mitigation.

ESA implemented Secunia’s Vulnerability Intelligence Manager (VIM) to provide real-time, targeted vulnerability intelligence, prioritized threat information, and flexible reporting (email/SMS alerts, XML/RSS, monthly reports and historical search). The VIM let the CERT rapidly inform technical teams, streamline administration, and improve proactive security measures — reducing risk exposure and the likelihood of IT incidents while increasing operational efficiency.
