A Flexera Case Study
Osmose Holdings, a Buffalo-based provider of utility and railroad infrastructure services and a leader in wood preservation R&D, faced a growing software asset management problem: more than 1,000 desktops and servers, roughly 150 applications and complex Enterprise Agreement (EA) and MSDN license types were being tracked in cumbersome spreadsheets. Manual processes made Microsoft true-ups take several person‑months and prevented accurate license-to-install mapping, driving the need for an automated, scalable SAM solution.
Osmose deployed Flexera’s FlexNet Manager Platform to reconcile installations with purchases, support complex license types and integrate inventory, usage and procurement data. Within weeks they cut their EA license count by 125, re-harvested licenses (saving thousands on Adobe purchases), achieved ROI in about seven months and expect six‑figure savings over three years, while gaining operational benefits—better help‑desk profiles, proactive hardware replacement planning and improved budgeting.
