Global media company tunes into cloud migration

Turner Broadcasting (CNN, TBS, TNT, etc.) needed to shift from on‑premises data centers to the public cloud to support digital distribution of content, but lacked visibility into its infrastructure and spent months trying to plan a migration. After choosing AWS, Turner followed AWS’s recommendation to work with Flexera to gain the detailed inventory and dependency data required for a successful move.

Flexera’s scan and dependency mapping let Turner bucket resources into “cloud‑ready” and “not cloud‑ready,” run proofs‑of‑concept and pilots, then begin full migrations—moving from the initial scan in February 2016 to migrations by July 2016. The effort uncovered nearly 1,000 idle servers (many shut down immediately), mapped 600+ applications and 10,000+ devices, accelerated migration planning, and enabled ongoing cloud transitions into 2017.
