Co-educational institution grows and expands with cloud services

Spalding University, a small six‑acre co‑educational campus, faced physical limits to growth and rising expectations for online services while operating from aging buildings and an understaffed IT team. To expand enrollment and modernize student and administrative systems without ballooning operational demands or costs, the university sought an external partner.

Partnering with Flexential (colocation in 2006 and cloud migration in 2012) moved core systems — registration, billing, accounting, SharePoint portal, DNS, directory services, backups, disaster recovery and managed firewall — to a managed cloud environment. The outcome: lower IT costs, no increase in in‑house staff despite enrollment growing from about 1,700 to 2,500, stronger reliability through outages and storms, and freed IT resources to focus on university growth.
