Reverse Engineered Catalytic Converters

Engine Catalyst Company, a UK-based developer of catalytic converters and related automotive exhaust products, needed help reverse engineering two catalytic converter samples and redesigning them with larger manifolds. They partnered with Flatworld Solutions to support the product development effort and provide a workable design that matched their updated specifications.

Flatworld Solutions used a team of 8 FTEs to laser scan the samples, extract cloud point data, and deliver the reverse-engineered design in SolidWorks 2015, then converted it to .igs when the client’s SolidWorks 2014 software could not open the file. Flatworld Solutions completed the project in 45 days, met the client’s benchmarks, and the successful outcome led to 54 additional catalytic converter samples being sent for further reverse engineering and ongoing product development support.
