Case Study: Lufthansa optimizes real-time flight planning with Fivetran

A Fivetran Case Study

Preview of the Lufthansa Case Study

Using real-time information for flight planning with Fivetran

Lufthansa Systems, part of Lufthansa, needed a reliable way to keep its flight planning system continuously updated with data from third-party sources and airline customers. The company’s Lido/FPLS service depends on fresh weather, air traffic, flight, payload, and pricing data to generate optimized routes, but it also had to distribute updated flight plans and operational alerts back out to customer sites in real time. Lufthansa Systems used Fivetran to support this critical data movement across its global airline network.

Fivetran provided bi-directional replication between Lufthansa Systems’ central data repository and hundreds of customer data warehouses, using compression and pipelined architecture to work efficiently over slow network links. The solution helped optimize flight plans for roughly 300 airlines worldwide and supported seamless migration from Ingres to Oracle over more than 15 years. According to Lufthansa Systems, Fivetran’s flexibility, performance, and robustness made it a strong fit for its flight planning system.
