University of Virginia secures 180,000 users in one year with Fischer Identity

The University of Virginia was facing significant challenges with its aging, homegrown identity and access management (IAM) system. The legacy system created security vulnerabilities, inefficient processes, and knowledge risk as it was maintained by only two experts nearing retirement. To address these operational, security, and compliance demands, UVA turned to vendor Fischer Identity for a modern, scalable IAM solution.

Fischer Identity implemented its platform to streamline identity onboarding and automate provisioning and deprovisioning. The solution unified user credentials across systems and provided a self-service portal for password resets and multi-factor authentication management. As a result, UVA securely managed over 180,000 active users and nearly 2 million identities within a year, eliminating costly in-person credentialing and seamlessly transitioning its HR system to Workday with minimal disruption.
