United Way Worldwide, a global nonprofit network focused on health, education and financial stability, faced a major disruption when the COVID-19 pandemic derailed its planned advocacy work in March 2020. With urgent community needs emerging, the organization had to quickly pivot its outreach strategy to prioritize COVID‑19 relief and continue mobilizing its network of nearly 1,100 local United Ways.
Using FiscalNote Advocacy, United Way rapidly launched a COVID‑focused campaign and a virtual Hill day that made it easy for supporters to find their representatives and take action. The platform’s simplicity helped drive a surge in activity—a 265% increase in engaged advocates (more than 3,350 people), 11,500 emails, 400 calls, and 460 CEO signatures—and contributed to policy wins including a $300 universal charitable deduction, over $140M in PPP loans for local chapters, and other emergency relief.
