True Colors United Elevates the Power of LGBTQ Youth with VoterVoice

True Colors United, founded by Cyndi Lauper and others, fights youth homelessness with a focus on LGBTQ youth and youth of color using a “targeted universalism” approach. When HUD proposed rolling back protections for transgender and gender‑nonconforming people in homeless services, TCU faced the challenge of quickly mobilizing young people, service providers, and partners to make their voices heard at local and national levels.

TCU deployed FiscalNote’s VoterVoice to build a coalition action center that made participation simple and trackable, supported the National Youth Forum on Homelessness, and helped grow a high‑quality supporter list. The campaign generated more than 66,000 public comments to HUD, contributed to stopping the rule change, and strengthened TCU’s long‑term digital advocacy capacity.
