A FiscalNote Case Study
Code.org, a nonprofit that aims to make computer science part of the core curriculum for every student and to increase participation by women and underrepresented students of color, relied on a tiny policy team that struggled to track state legislation. With just one outward-facing public affairs lead and work spanning about ten states each session, the team was overwhelmed by fragmented updates from state sites, contractors, and word-of-mouth—often learning about bills only after they had moved and receiving dozens of irrelevant emails daily.
By adopting FiscalNote as their primary bill-tracking and analysis platform, Code.org used filtered, real-time alerts plus Legislator Analytics and Floor Forecasts to focus only on relevant bills and prioritize efforts. The tool let them combine on-the-ground knowledge with data-driven insights, freeing staff to concentrate on advocacy, monitor STEM-related bills for the first time, and cut work on low-probability legislation—saving time and resources and enabling more strategic, analytic policy decisions.
