NMA Leverages VoterVoice to Push for a Safe Harbor for Publishers

The News Media Alliance (NMA), which represents about 2,000 news publishers, faced the challenge of countering the market power of tech giants and securing a more favorable legislative and regulatory environment for digital news distribution — notably pushing the 2019 Journalism Competition and Preservation Act. With a very small internal advocacy team, NMA needed a scalable, easy way to mobilize members and influence members of Congress.

Using VoterVoice, NMA uploaded its publisher list, created personalized email campaigns and an action center with talking points, and relied on address-based matching to connect supporters with their representatives. The platform’s ease of use produced a massive response during the August recess, let the tiny team run effective nationwide outreach, and became an indispensable tool for ongoing digital advocacy.
