Preview of the Bass Anglers for Saltwater Conservation Case Study

How one organization energized their advocates and grew their base by 23% – when there was no major issue to work on

Bass Anglers for Saltwater Conservation, an angler coalition using FiscalNote’s advocacy tools, wanted to grow their advocacy base during a lull in legislative activity when there were no hot issues to mobilize supporters. With roughly 6,000 prior action takers and usual promotion via social, trade shows, and email, they needed a fresh, low-cost way to attract new advocates.

They ran a sweepstakes offering a donated YETI Tundra 65 cooler in exchange for sending a prewritten letter via the Bass for Salt action center, promoted through trade show booths, Facebook, email blasts, and FiscalNote’s platform (about $300 in paid promotion). The two-month campaign produced 1,857 entrants who sent 4,335 letters, adding 1,410 new advocates — roughly a 23% increase in their advocacy base — with events driving most sign-ups and Facebook/email contributing 25% and 15% respectively.
