A FiscalNote Case Study
The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), a 6,000‑member medical society focused on improving addiction treatment, needed to monitor a wide range of state and federal policy issues—telemedicine, harm reduction, parity, and several major federal bills—while supporting 39 largely independent state chapters with a very small government affairs team. The challenge was tracking fast‑moving legislation across jurisdictions, educating chapter members with varied priorities, and mobilizing clinicians who have limited time for advocacy.
ASAM adopted FiscalNote’s suite—FiscalNote State, CQ Federal and VoterVoice—using automated alerts, committee tracking, legislative analysis, and an actions log to centralize intelligence and coordinate chapter activity. The tools let the small team spot developments early, prioritize outreach, provide targeted education, and mobilize advocates (sending hundreds of messages during a Virtual Advocacy Day), improving responsiveness, chapter support, and overall advocacy effectiveness nationwide.
