Oriental Bank, a Puerto Rico–based lender, faced major post‑merger challenges after several acquisitions doubled its size overnight—requiring transformation of operations, technology transitions, staff training and conversion of $5 billion in assets while serving a largely unbanked population. Oriental turned to FIS to implement a range of online and mobile banking technologies and modernize loan origination using FIS solutions including Core Banking, Mobile Banking, Online Banking, Auto Lending, Consumer Lending and PeoplePay.
FIS executed a seamless transition, helping Oriental reinvent its operating and technology models and deliver mobile banking access to customers in rural and remote areas. The FIS partnership produced measurable impact: 283% growth in branches, increased transaction and loan volume, and positioned Oriental as Puerto Rico’s third‑largest bank by deposit and loan volume.
