eftpos, which operates Australia’s leading debit card system, faced rapid market change — notably the rise of contactless cards — but was constrained by decades‑old infrastructure and a network of 27 independent interbank connections that made industry‑wide change difficult. To modernize and introduce new payment options, eftpos engaged FIS to deliver an EFT Switching Platform and a consolidated payments hub.

FIS implemented a high‑volume, hub‑and‑spoke payments solution that enabled eftpos to roll out chip and contactless cards and enter online and mobile payments, while reducing time to market and saving millions in operating costs. The FIS solution now supports 6M+ daily transactions, 139B+ in annual payments volume and helps deliver innovative services to 23M Australian citizens, positioning eftpos to adapt quickly to future payment developments.
