Preview of the Hacker News Case Study

Hacker News scrapes 1,040 stories across 61 pages with Firecrawl

The customer, Hacker News, faced the challenge of programmatically extracting structured data from its paginated website. Standard methods and AI agents would often only retrieve the first page of content, failing to automatically traverse all subsequent pages to capture the complete dataset. They needed a reliable way to scrape every page without writing site-specific parsing logic.

The vendor, Firecrawl, solved this by providing structured JSON output via its scrape endpoint and SDK. This allowed the customer to implement a loop that incrementally scraped each page until an empty result set signaled the end. Using Firecrawl, they successfully extracted all data from 61 pages, capturing nearly 1,040 stories into a single, structured file without any manual page-count guessing or HTML parsing.
