Explorium provides an external data platform to help companies make better decisions. They faced a challenge with their Presto and AWS setup, where performance for time series data enrichment requests would slow down unpredictably under high load, impacting customer satisfaction. Customer queries, which required scanning many partitions, would cause slowdowns for all users. This issue was expected to worsen as their data and requests were projected to triple.

Firebolt implemented a solution where small, live queries are executed directly against their platform via a REST API, while larger requests are processed as federated queries. By leveraging Firebolt's architecture and primary indexes, Explorium achieved performance 15-50x faster than Amazon Redshift for live queries. Even for larger offline requests, performance improved 3-5x over Presto, all while providing predictable, consistent results under high load and easy scalability.
