DRB Systems, the leading provider of point-of-sale and tunnel control software for the carwash industry, needed a more stable and cost-effective database platform for its SiteWatch system. As the product grew in complexity, its InterBase-based environment became harder to manage, more expensive to upgrade, and increasingly prone to stability and corruption problems.

DRB Systems migrated its Windows POS product to Firebird, starting with Firebird 1.5 and later using 2.0 and 2.1, with a move to 2.5 planned. Firebird delivered strong compatibility with InterBase, far lower licensing costs, improved stability, and solid performance even for very large databases, including some in the 40–50 GB range, while also reducing customer stability issues as more sites were upgraded.
