Halfbrick, the game studio behind titles like Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, wanted a better way to optimize ad placement and engagement without spending weeks on manual A/B testing. Using Firebase, specifically Remote Config, the team sought to increase revenue from ads while protecting player retention and also automate the timing of in-game rating prompts.
Firebase’s Remote Config personalization was implemented to automatically tune ad frequency, level-unlock timing, and rating-prompt timing based on player behavior. The results were strong: Halfbrick increased ads per user from 3.4 to 4.2, lifted average revenue per daily active user by 16%, boosted rating-prompt engagement by 4%, and increased positive app store ratings by 15%, while reducing experiment setup from about a week to just a day or two.
