Case Study: Scottrade achieves real-time trade processing at scale with Fiorano MQ

A Fiorano Software Case Study

Preview of the Scottrade Case Study

Scottrade achieves real-time processing for million transactions with FioranoMQ

Scottrade, a leading online investing firm serving more than one million customers, needed a highly scalable, reliable way to process millions of real-time trades across a mixed environment of IBM iSeries mainframes, Dell PowerEdge servers, and applications built in Linux, Unix, Java, and C++. After considering a Java multicast approach, Scottrade turned to Fiorano Software and its Fiorano MQ enterprise messaging platform to meet demanding throughput and availability requirements.

Fiorano Software implemented Fiorano MQ with high availability and software-only state replication to keep Scottrade’s trading infrastructure running during network or machine failures, while also using the product’s administrative API and web interface for custom developer tools and customer notifications. The result was exceptional trade-processing performance, faster development, and support for new features such as a web front-end that alerts customers when trades are executed; Scottrade also earned its fifth consecutive J.D. Power award for Highest in Investor Satisfaction, citing trade execution and website capability as key strengths.
