FioranoMQ messaging cuts time needed for changes to UC Berkeley online ids by over 90%

The University of California, Berkeley’s Information Services and Technology division needed a faster way to manage CalNet IDs for students, employees, and alumni. Its existing IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator-based approach caused identity updates to take two to three days, creating delays in provisioning and maintaining secure single sign-on access across campus systems. Fiorano Software’s FioranoMQ messaging platform was identified as the solution to help streamline these identity changes.

Fiorano Software implemented FioranoMQ to support real-time messaging between systems such as Active Directory, central calendaring, and later Sun Identity Manager. The result was a dramatic improvement in performance and reliability: CalNet ID changes that once took days could be completed the same morning, cutting change time by over 90%. UC Berkeley also reported no bottlenecks with upstream data, the ability to cache messages if needed, and confidence that FioranoMQ could scale toward nearly a million IDs.
