Fiorano Integration Platform sparks web services-based energy scheduling solution for Northern California Power Agency

Northern California Power Agency (NCPA), a California joint action agency serving 18 public power entities, needed a faster way to coordinate energy scheduling and interchange management as regulations changed almost daily and partner exchanges moved to XML-based web services. Its legacy, data-centric client/server and monolithic applications were driving up costs and made it hard to share data quickly across .NET, Java, Oracle, and SQL environments.

NCPA implemented Fiorano Software’s Fiorano ESB to connect legacy systems, databases, and partner web services through a standards-based service-oriented architecture. The solution enabled near real-time message exchange, faster scheduling and market dispatch validation, reusable .NET components, remote deployment and monitoring, and better failover/security; as a result, NCPA improved integration and responsiveness to market and regulatory changes, helping members’ customers benefit from lower electric bills.
