Duchesne Academy moved to replace its once-traditional printed parent directory with an online, password-protected app, confronting concerns about parent adoption and the Parent Association’s reliance on directory sales as a fundraiser. The school also weighed the real costs of printing and the ongoing burden of manual updates and errors that made the paper version quickly outdated.
Duchesne rolled out the app with a targeted communications campaign—back-to-school emails from school heads, tutorial videos, posters and staffed demonstrations—and pulled directory data directly from its database. The result: near-universal adoption with only one complaint, significant savings in printing and staff hours, more accurate, photo-enhanced listings, parents self-updating their information, and plans to extend the app to alumni to boost engagement.
