Sierra Wireless, a Canadian engineering company, sought a solution to manage its complex and lengthy engineering documents, which were created by teams across different centers and required secure control and easy retrieval due to the company's rapid growth. They determined their existing tools were insufficient and initiated a search for a new document management system, a process led by their Document Control Manager.

After evaluating six systems, Sierra Wireless selected FileHold document management software for a pilot project. The pilot was successful, leading to a purchase in 2008.
