How News UK developed a multi-brand design system

News UK, part of News Corp and publisher of brands like The Times and The Sun, faced a growing challenge: scaling design and development across multiple, independently run brands. Their previous mix of Sketch, Abstract, Zeplin, and InVision produced fragmented libraries, rigid theming, and poor adoption, so News UK migrated to Figma to consolidate tools, centralize library management, and build a multi-brand design system.

Using Figma, News UK established shared libraries, built a custom Themer plugin, ran tailored onboarding and workshops, and recruited designer advocates to drive adoption. The move—completed in just a couple of weeks—improved collaboration, sped up feedback cycles, and increased buy-in; News UK reported a 23-point spike in their internal NPS in the first quarter after introducing Figma.
