Case Study: GitHub achieves seamless remote design collaboration and faster delivery with Figma

A Figma Case Study

GitHub takes its collaborative culture to a new level

GitHub, the development platform used by millions of developers worldwide, faced collaboration and workflow challenges as a remote-first company: designers repeatedly recreated assets, documentation and patterns were inconsistent, and contributing to the Octicons SVG library required specific tooling and installs. To remove these barriers, GitHub experimented with the web-based design tool Figma.

GitHub migrated Octicons into Figma and leveraged the Figma API to automate the contribution workflow, enabling platform‑agnostic edits without complex setup. By using Figma files for real‑time jamming, prototyping and commenting, GitHub shortened feedback cycles, made the design system easier to keep up to date, lowered the barrier for engineers and product managers to participate, and accelerated delivery and innovation across teams. Figma thus became a core enabler of more inclusive, faster collaboration.
