Case Study: Dropbox achieves seamless remote creativity and cross-functional collaboration with Figma

A Figma Case Study

Dropbox - Customer Case Study

Dropbox faced the sudden shift to a virtual‑first workplace caused by the COVID‑19 pandemic and needed to recreate the spontaneous, in‑person collaboration that had been built into its global offices. Already using Figma since migrating from Sketch in 2018, the Dropbox design team leaned on the Figma design and collaboration platform to preserve creative flow, streamline remote reviews, and maintain cross‑functional teamwork at scale.

Figma features like observation mode, shared file links, real‑time co‑editing, and templated handoff pages were adopted across workflows and extended to non‑design teams through workshops (scaled to 200+ attendees). Using Figma’s collaborative files and an icon‑checklist template for weekly library publishes, Dropbox eliminated unnecessary comms, sped up iteration cycles, and expanded usage organization‑wide (QA, research, marketing now co‑create in Figma), making Figma the team’s central virtual whiteboard and hub for collaboration.
