Case Study: Uber enables cash payments for the unbanked with Figma

A Figma Case Study

Preview of the Uber Case Study

Designers use Figma to bring Uber to the unbanked

Uber, a global mobility platform designing experiences for riders and drivers across diverse markets, faced major design workflow challenges as it expanded cash-payment features in emerging markets. The Cash team’s previous tools required juggling multiple apps, slow import/export, and only one person could edit at a time—making real-time iteration during field research and communication with engineers impractical. Product designer Femke van Schoonhoven adopted Figma, a collaborative, web-based design tool, to address these issues.

Using Figma, Uber teams can drag-and-drop existing files, collaborate in real time on the same designs, leave contextual comments, and share a single source of truth with engineers and stakeholders. Figma cut communication overhead by at least 75%, simplified and sped up handoffs to engineering, and enabled faster iteration and approvals during on-the-ground testing—helping Uber move more quickly and consistently when designing payment experiences for diverse markets.
