Bulb shines bright with Solar as its design system

Bulb, the UK’s largest green energy supplier on a mission to make energy simpler, cheaper and greener, faced inconsistent interfaces after multiple agencies built its products with different patterns and code bases. Its 13‑person design and UX team needed a single source of truth and a collaborative tool that fit Bulb’s open, cross‑discipline culture, so the team selected Figma to support a shared design workflow and systemization effort.

Using Figma’s browser‑based team library and live collaboration features, Bulb built its Solar design system—standardizing components, styles and practices and involving designers, developers and researchers in one process. Figma enabled rapid prototyping, eliminated time‑consuming handoffs, made research insights visible in designs, and helped roll the system out across eight products; the result was faster, more consistent design work and a maintained culture of transparency as Bulb scaled.
