Akamai automates reporting to achieve renewable energy goals

Akamai Technologies, one of the world’s largest cloud content delivery platforms, needed a better way to manage the complexity of its global energy and carbon reporting. Its existing sustainability software could not handle the scale, granularity, or customization required across thousands of data centers, asset-level tracking, and employee travel, leaving the team stuck in a manual “excel nightmare.” FigBytes provided the carbon management platform used to replace the legacy system and support Akamai’s renewable energy and emissions reduction program.

FigBytes implemented a single, scalable platform that automated bulk data uploads, real-time emissions calculations, custom workflows, and asset-level carbon tracking across Akamai’s worldwide operations. The solution also supported renewable energy reporting and data-driven storytelling for strategy and engagement. As a result, Akamai gained major efficiency improvements, reduced manual work, and could more easily track progress toward its goal of sourcing 50% renewable energy for global network operations by 2020.
