University reduces term start-up delays

Distribution University, a multi-campus university serving 25,000 full-time and 15,000 part-time students across a 1,100-square-mile metro area, was struggling to start classes on time because about 20% of classes could not begin on the first day of each term. The delays were caused by missing furniture, broken lighting, damaged rooms, and missing or broken A/V and computer equipment, largely because less than 25% of instructional space was inspected before term start. FieldFLEX provided its mobile inspections app to help address the issue.

With FieldFLEX, classroom services staff completed baseline surveys and pre-term inspections on mobile devices, reported deficiencies to Facilities, IT, and A/V Services at least two weeks before classes began, and allowed time for repairs and replacements. As a result, Distribution University achieved 100% on-time term starts, reduced issues to only minor ones that did not block classes, shifted from reactive to scheduled maintenance, gained useful inventory data, and realized 20% savings on new furniture and equipment by using surplus first.
