A Ferrum Health Case Study
A large United States based health system sought to improve the early detection of lung cancer by identifying undocumented lung nodules found incidentally on CT scans. Their existing peer review process was limited, screening only 3-5% of studies. To address this challenge, the health system partnered with Ferrum Health to implement its AI platform, which uses a natural language processing algorithm.
Ferrum Health's solution provided a secondary, automated review of CT scans without disrupting the radiologists' workflow. Their AI platform scanned 30,000 studies over eight months, flagging over 1,100 for potential undocumented findings. This process identified 118 clinically significant lung nodules that had been missed, directly impacting patient care by enabling earlier intervention. The results from Ferrum Health demonstrated a substantial enhancement to the peer review process, significantly increasing the opportunity for early cancer detection.
