Case Study: NVIDIA achieves global 100% availability and 10x lower TCO with FaunaDB

Global Customer Identity and Access Management, powered by FaunaDB

Nvidia needed to overhaul the customer identity and access management (CIAM) platform that backs its companion experiences for gamers because the incumbent cloud database could not scale globally, was costly to customize, and created vendor lock-in. In evaluating options in 2016, Nvidia selected Fauna and its FaunaDB product to meet strict requirements for multi-cloud deployment (VMware and AWS), global distributed transactions, low-latency queries, and minimal operational overhead.

Fauna implemented FaunaDB clusters across Nvidia’s public and private clouds with built-in global replication, 100% ACID transactions, and simple developer-facing queries, allowing the CIAM platform to scale and operate with a very small team. As a result, Fauna enabled Nvidia to achieve 100% database availability since launch, sustain more than 30,000 requests/sec (≈25B requests/day), run 50 nodes across five global data centers with numerous private deployments, support tens of millions of users, and reduce total cost of ownership to about one-tenth of the previous solution.
