A Fathom Case Study
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) faced the challenge of completing a statutorily mandated statewide flood vulnerability assessment on an aggressive timeline. They needed a comprehensive view of flood risk from all sources for current and future climate scenarios, but large data gaps and incompatible existing datasets from public sources created a significant obstacle.
Fathom provided a solution by developing bespoke, LiDAR-based flood models for pluvial, fluvial, and coastal flooding. Partnering with local engineering firms, Fathom adapted its modeling to Florida's specific conditions and integrated local data, filling the critical gaps. As a result, FDEP received a seamless, statewide map of flood hazards. This enabled them to successfully complete a sensitivity and vulnerability analysis for all 67 counties, providing critical data to inform future resilience planning for the state.
