Fathom’s data strengthens the coverage and accuracy of MSCI’s physical risk solutions, helping its financial sector clients to better measure, mitigate and manage the flood risk to assets and investments

MSCI, an investment research firm, sought to enhance the climate-risk intelligence it provides to its financial sector clients. Their challenge was to upgrade from a first-generation flood model to a more reliable, granular, and globally consistent dataset to give clients greater confidence in location-level flood risk assessments.

Fathom provided its Global Flood Map, which offered comprehensive global coverage, higher resolution, and data for multiple future climate scenarios. By implementing Fathom's data, MSCI was able to offer new capabilities, including real-time location assessments and insights into pluvial flooding for the first time. This allowed MSCI's clients to better measure, mitigate, and manage flood risk at both the individual asset and portfolio levels.
