Case Study: AXA strengthens flood risk modeling and regulatory reporting with Fathom

A Fathom Case Study

Preview of the AXA Case Study

AXA a cutting-edge catastrophe model for Europe

AXA, Europe's largest insurer, needed to develop its own highly accurate, pan-European flood catastrophe model to understand shifting climate risks and strengthen its financial resilience. The complexity of creating a model at this scale required specific hydrological expertise, leading them to issue a tender which was answered by the vendor, Fathom, in partnership with Deltares.

Fathom led the development of this state-of-the-art model, sourcing comprehensive European data and ensuring a coherent integration of all partners' contributions. The resulting model provides AXA with a reliable, transparent view of flood risk that supports enterprise risk management, enhances regulatory reporting, and will eventually inform policy pricing. The partnership with Fathom empowered AXA to build a tool that is fully explainable to regulators and uniquely allows for the analysis of defense failures and future climate scenarios.
