A Fastly Case Study
wikiHow is a wiki-style how-to site serving over 150 million monthly visitors across 230 countries. Because its articles are constantly edited and can suddenly go viral, the team needed to deliver the most up-to-date content instantly—especially on mobile, where more than half of users will abandon a site if it takes over three seconds to load—without creating performance or origin-load problems.
To solve this, wikiHow adopted Fastly’s edge cloud platform—using CDN caching, shielding, real-time logging, and DDoS mitigation—to cache and update changing articles at the edge and route misses to a designated shield POP instead of origins. The result: they weathered a 1540x traffic spike with no slowdown, improved mobile page speeds, reduced origin costs and risk, and gained real-time insights into user behavior to keep content fresh and reliable.
