Trade Me - Customer Case Study

Trade Me, New Zealand’s largest auction and classifieds marketplace, needed to maintain fast, reliable customer experiences as it moved from local data centres to the public cloud. With millions of monthly users and image-heavy listings, the company turned to Fastly for a CDN and edge platform to keep content close to users and address the latency, security, and reliability challenges created by hosting infrastructure across the Tasman Sea.

Fastly implemented a global delivery network with customizable VCL, image optimization, and the Next-Gen WAF powered by Signal Sciences, helping Trade Me reduce latency, improve site journeys, and strengthen protection against DDoS and other attacks. The result was smoother customer traffic handling and better visibility into threats; notably, when Trade Me enabled blocking mode on Fastly’s WAF, “nobody noticed,” showing the rollout had minimal impact on legitimate users while improving security.
