Mercari, a major Japanese e-commerce platform, faced high operational workload and low maintainability with its on-premises email beacon and log analysis system. To streamline this marketing data collection, they partnered with Fastly to migrate the system to a serverless edge computing environment using Fastly's Compute platform.

Fastly implemented a new mail beacon system using its Compute@Edge service, which processes user requests and sends logs directly to Google BigQuery and Cloud Storage. This migration significantly reduced Mercari's operational load and improved system maintainability, while also eliminating single points of failure and providing reliable queuing to prevent log loss.
