A Fastly Case Study
GitHub, the developer collaboration platform with millions of users and repositories, needed a way to deliver content faster and more reliably at global scale. Working with Fastly and its CDN service, GitHub customized its content delivery setup to support GitHub.com, Pages, and raw.github.com, while also helping protect services from traffic spikes and DoS attacks.
Fastly implemented a self-provisioning CDN configuration with dynamic content caching, grace mode, and dedicated IPs to smooth request bursts and reduce origin load. As a result, GitHub was able to move content over quickly, improve speed and reliability for Pages, and significantly cut repeated requests to origin; for one content chunk, spikes dropped from about 100 requests to just one, helping GitHub scale efficiently.
