GitGuardian, a Paris-based SaaS security company, needed to replace a legacy web application firewall that produced too many false positives and interfered with code snippets and automated webhooks from its users. As the company scaled and moved to Kubernetes, it sought a self-hosted, highly available WAF that could fit infrastructure-as-code workflows and integrate cleanly with its logging stack. Fastly’s Next-Gen WAF was selected to meet those requirements.

Fastly implemented Next-Gen WAF across GitGuardian’s sandbox, staging, pre-production, and production environments, with automated rule deployment and logs exported to ElasticSearch, Prometheus, and Grafana. The solution eliminated the need for prior rule exceptions, improved reliability and attack detection, and provided precise logging and strong support for a non-standard Istio-based Kubernetes setup. GitGuardian reported much happier security and reliability outcomes with Fastly, along with faster, easier operations and fewer manual maintenance tasks.
