Fastly Delivers First Class Streaming Experience for Network Ten’s Melbourne Cup

Network 10 needed to deliver the Melbourne Cup live stream on its website without interruption during the year’s biggest traffic spike, while ensuring high-quality audio and video for viewers on any device. As more fans shifted from traditional TV to digital viewing, the broadcaster turned to Fastly to support reliable, low-latency streaming at scale.

Fastly implemented its edge cloud network and Live Event Monitoring to provide reserved capacity, real-time insights, and seamless delivery through 10 Play and Network 10’s website, without requiring bespoke software. The results were strong: in 2020, Fastly helped deliver more than 680,000 concurrent streams, handled over 50% of race-day traffic, and supported a 1,400% peak bandwidth increase; in 2021, Fastly carried 70% of Network 10’s traffic during the Melbourne Cup, a 40% year-on-year increase.
