EdTech leader Skillsoft uses Fastly to seamlessly scale video by 400%

Skillsoft, an EdTech leader serving 45 million learners in more than 160 countries, faced a sudden surge in video traffic as demand accelerated during the pandemic. With most of its content delivered as video, Skillsoft needed a way to keep user experience fast and reliable while managing a 4x increase in traffic and avoiding latency and uptime issues. Fastly helped Skillsoft scale its streaming delivery efficiently.

Using Fastly’s on-the-fly packaging service (OTFP), Instant Purge, and Enterprise Support, Skillsoft was able to dynamically package video in real time, reduce storage overhead, and improve load times. Fastly’s globally distributed network also helped Skillsoft minimize latency and maintain uninterrupted delivery as traffic grew, with video traffic rising from about 100 TB per month before COVID-19 to over 400 TB per month afterward.
