University of Illinois creates microfluidic diagnostics in 5 weeks with Fast Radius

The University of Illinois, in partnership with Fast Radius, faced the challenge of drastically accelerating the development of a point-of-care COVID-19 test. They needed to compress a process that typically takes years into just a few weeks to create a manufacturable microfluidic diagnostic chip.

Fast Radius utilized additive manufacturing to design, print, and test approximately 10 iterations of the device in rapid cycles. This solution resulted in a validated, production-ready prototype in only five weeks. The additively manufactured chip is half the size of a traditional 2D design and offers superior functionality, saving millions in tooling costs compared to injection molding.
