The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) faced the challenge of modernizing its outdated unemployment insurance tax systems. Partnering with vendor Fast Enterprises, IDES sought to replace its five legacy systems in a cost-effective manner by leveraging an existing implementation of Fast Enterprises' GenTax system that was already in use by the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR).

Fast Enterprises implemented a solution that integrated IDES's requirements into IDOR's existing GenTax platform, creating a shared system for both agencies. This collaboration resulted in significant improvements, including a reduction in paper filings from 100,000 to under 30,000 per quarter, over $1 million in new revenue collected within six months, and annual savings of more than $800,000 from reduced paper and IT costs. The project was completed on time and on budget, dramatically modernizing IDES's operations and customer service capabilities.
