Hacienda - Customer Case Study

The Department of Treasury of Puerto Rico, known as Hacienda, faced the challenge of needing to replace its aging, siloed tax systems with a modern, unified digital platform to improve services for its employees and the island's 3.2 million citizens. To address this, Hacienda partnered with Fast Enterprises to implement the GenTax software suite and the accompanying online portal known as SURI (Sistema Unificado de Rentas Internas).

Fast Enterprises implemented the GenTax system, which consolidated multiple tax types into a single platform and enabled the new SURI online service portal. This solution proved critically flexible, allowing Hacienda to quickly adapt and manage emergency relief programs during a series of major disasters, including hurricanes, earthquakes, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The results were transformative: SURI became a household name, with 70% of the tax-paying population registered; it streamlined taxpayer services, improved communication, and was credited with enabling the rapid distribution of billions in pandemic aid, which was vital to saving the island's economy.
