Faronics’ IT Solutions Simply Workstation Management at Garden City Public Schools

Garden City Public Schools, a district with approximately 5,500 students, was facing a significant IT security challenge. Students were repeatedly changing system settings, such as browser proxies, and accessing restricted areas of the network on its 1,300 workstations. The district's previous solution, Fortres 101, proved ineffective as students routinely found ways to bypass it, creating a heavy workload for the small IT team that had to constantly re-image compromised computers.

The school implemented Faronics WINSelect, partnering it with the existing Faronics Deep Freeze solution. WINSelect allowed administrators to lock down browser and system settings, including disabling the right-click option to prevent access to restricted menus. According to the Technology Supervisor, WINSelect completely eliminated the day-to-day problems. The Faronics solution dramatically reduced the IT team's workload, freeing them from routine software maintenance so they could focus only on hardware issues, resulting in significant time savings.
