Planting the Seed for a More Sustainable Type of Vegetable Value Chain in Ethiopia

The Development Fund of Norway (DFN) sought to improve a sustainable vegetable value chain project in Ethiopia, which aimed to boost the income of smallholder farmers. The challenge was that the project's data tracking relied on inefficient manual and paper-based methods, making it difficult to manage agricultural inputs, track crops, and connect farmers to markets. To enhance their program, DFN turned to Farmforce for its farm data management software.

By implementing Farmforce's SaaS solution, the project digitized farmer data and integrated all relevant information into a single platform, streamlining management for extension workers. Despite facing challenges like connectivity issues, the solution helped achieve significant results. Farmforce's technology contributed to farmers' incomes more than doubling compared to pre-intervention levels, with productivity for crops like tomato and cabbage rising over 100%.
